Ahead of Romania's parliamentary elections on 11 December, the European People's Party (EPP) President Joseph Daul made the following statement:
"As Romanians head to the polls to elect a new parliament, I would like to reaffirm EPP’s support for our centre-right member parties. An EPP-led government will keep Romania on a path of reform and prosperity and will enable the people of Romania to reap the full benefits of EU integration. A return to a Socialist government is a return to the past.
These elections come at a significant time for the country. Romanians will elect this Sunday not only those who will represent them in the next four years; they will also decide on the political class who will take over Romania's first Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2019. I fully trust that the people of Romania will choose trustworthy and competent political representatives, to reform the country and to credibly represent it in relation to its international partners.
Romania has come a long way and has made a lot of progress since it joined the EU. Fundamental reforms made by EPP representatives in the past have strengthened the judiciary and established a basis for economic growth and job creation. But the hard work must not stop here. Now, more than ever, Romania must continue on its path of reform, building on Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș's recent achievements. Fighting against corruption, strengthening the justice system, and upholding the rule of law must remain priorities of any future parliament. Romanians deserve a parliament and a state that works for the well-being of them all, not just a few."

The Party Platform was developed in EPP Working Group 1 for “European Policy” chaired by EPP President Wilfried MARTENS ?and EPP Vice President Peter HINTZE. The Working Group consists of delegates of EPP member parties who prepared and worked?on this document for more than two years and received input?from the drafting committee as well as senior and young experts.
