Ahead of Spanish general elections on 26 June, the President of the European People's Party (EPP), Joseph Daul, expressed his support for Spanish EPP member parties Partido Popular (PP) and Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC) and to Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy:
"Spanish citizens have made great sacrifices to lead their country away from the brink in recent years. What has been achieved must be continued and not unraveled by unrealistic policies. Partido Popular is the only party that can guarantee stability, growth and prosperity for Spain and is a reliable partner for Europe," EPP President Joseph Daul said.
"After years of irresponsible Socialist governments, the reforms implemented by Mariano Rajoy, alongside the efforts of Spanish citizens, have turned Spain into one of the fastest growing economies in Europe, creating one in three jobs in the Eurozone."
"These PP reforms are bringing results. 1400 job positions were destroyed per day in Spain in 2011. Today more than 1500 jobs are being created daily, amounting to more than a million jobs in the last two years. In addition, the Spanish economy grew over 3 per cent last year."
"The courageous actions of Mariano Rajoy's government have enabled Spain to overcome the crisis and strengthen its economy for the welfare of its citizens. The PP has given real answers in response to people's difficulties. I hope that Spanish citizens will bear this in mind when casting their ballots on Sunday," concluded President Daul.
President Daul wishes good luck to both our EPP parties - PP and UDC - in this Sunday’s elections.
