The European People’s Party (EPP) has congratulated Partido Popular (PP) and acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy for the party's large victory in the Spanish general elections held on Sunday.
“I would like to send my warmest congratulations to PM Mariano Rajoy and Partido Popular for their clear electoral victory yesterday. The majority of the Spanish citizens backed PP, which has increased its number of seats relative to the previous elections in December. This shows that implementing brave, serious and responsible policies works, ” said EPP President Joseph Daul.
“With their vote, Spanish citizens have once again trusted PP and Mariano Rajoy as the only ones able to lead a stable government that continues working to guarantee Spain’s and Europe’s security, prosperity and growth. The election result also reaffirms the commitment of Spanish citizens to the European Union”.
“The EPP expects that Partido Popular will be able to form a government soon, and we are convinced the party will continue to lead Spain and Europe towards higher levels of wellbeing and progress”, concluded the EPP President.

El Partido Popular Europeo ha felicitado al Partido Popular (PP) de España y a su candidato, el Presidente del Gobierno en funciones Mariano Rajoy, por su amplia victoria en las elecciones generales celebradas el domingo.
"Quiero trasladar mi más sincera enhorabuena al Presidente Mariano Rajoy y al Partido Popular (PP) por su claro triunfo en las elecciones celebradas ayer. El respaldo mayoritario de los ciudadanos españoles al PP, que ha ampliado el número de escaños respecto a los anteriores comicios, confirman que la políticas valientes, serias y responsables funcionan", ha afirmado el Presidente del PPE, Joseph Daul.
"Con su voto, los españoles han confiado una vez más en el Partido Popular y en Mariano Rajoy como única opción para liderar un gobierno estable que siga trabajando para garantizar la seguridad, la prosperidad y el crecimiento de España y Europa. The Party Platform was developed in EPP Working Group 1 for “European Policy” chaired by EPP President Wilfried MARTENS ?and EPP Vice President Peter HINTZE. The Working Group consists of delegates of EPP member parties who prepared and worked?on this document for more than two years and received input?from the drafting committee as well as senior and young experts. The document was adopted at the 2012 EPP Congress in Bucharest, thus replacing the Basic Programme of Athens from 1992.
