At the Political Assembly held today in Brussels, the member parties of the European People’s Party (EPP) adopted an emergency resolution asking the EU institutions to take into account the recent murder of prominent Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov while stepping up EU sanctions against Russia, as well as calling for an international investigation of the murder. The EPP delegates conveyed their deep concern about the murders of members of the opposition, journalists and, in general, people critical of the authorities. The resolution also demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners. Moreover, the EPP member parties called on the Russian authorities to stop the shameful propaganda and information war against its neighbours, the Western world and its own people. The Political Assembly observed a moment of silence, with the participants expressing their condolences to the family and friends of Boris Nemtsov, members of the opposition in Russia, and the Russian people.
