The European People’s Party concluded in 29th Congress in Valencia today, co-hosted by Partido Popular (PP). Manfred WEBER was re-elected yesterday as EPP President for a three year term and today, party delegates elected the new Secretary General, 10 Vice-Presidents and a Treasurer.
Following the proposal of President Weber, Dolors MONTSERRAT (PP, Spain) was elected as the new Secretary General with 518 votes in favor out of 558 valid votes. The members of the EPP Presidency, in number of the votes received, are:
Petteri ORPO (Kokoomus, Finland)
Antonio TAJANI (Forza Italia, Italy)
David MCALLISTER (CDU, Germany)
Siegfried MURESAN (PNL, Romania)
Andrej HALICKI (Civic Platform, Poland)
Dubravka SUICA (HDZ, Croatia)
Magnus BRUNNER (ÖVP, Austria)
Kostis Hatzidakis (ND, Greece)
Mairead McGUINNESS (Fine Fael, Ireland)
Paulo RANGEL (PSD, Portugal)
François-Xavier BELLAMY (Les Républicains, France) was elected as EPP Treasurer.
The second day of the EPP Congress featured high-level speeches by EPP Heads of State or Governments such as Nikos CHRISTODOULIDES (President of Cyprus), Petteri ORPO (Prime Minister of Finland), Ulf KRISTERSSON (Prime Minister of Sweden), Andrej PLENKOVIĆ (Prime Minister of Croatia) and Kyriakos MITSOTAKIS (Prime Minister of Greece). Additional speeches were delivered by EU Deputy Prime Ministers and Party Presidents such as Vincent VAN PETEGHEM (Deputy Prime Minister, Belgium), Simon HARRIS (Tánaiste, Ireland), Marek VÝBORNÝ (Party President, Czechia), Sviatlana TSIKHANOUSKAYA (Opposition leader, Belarus), Antonio TAJANI (Deputy Prime Minister, Italy).
The Congress delegates also adopted the following ordinary and emergency resolutions:
  • Ordinary Resolution n. 1: "On Safeguarding and Strengthening Academic Freedom in the European Union" – tabled by European Democrat Students (EDS)
  • Ordinary resolution n. 2:  "Financing Public Investment in the EU: The need for a more coordinated approach " – tabled by European Union of Christian Democratic Workers (EUCDW)
  • Ordinary resolution n. 3: "Now is the time for a new Europe" – tabled by Base Popolare (Italy)
