EPP Defence Ministers Discuss Strategic Priorities Ahead of Foreign Affairs Council (Defence)   Defence Ministers from the European People’s Party (EPP) convened in Brussels this morning to coordinate their positions ahead of the upcoming Foreign Affairs Council (Defence). The meeting was co-chaired by Pål Jonson, Minister of Defence of Sweden, and Nikolaos Dendias, Minister of Defence of Greece. The Ministers extended a warm welcome to Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, who presented his strategic vision for the implementation of the White Paper on European Readiness 2030. The Ministers expressed their full support for the Commissioner’s work and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Europe’s collective defence and readiness. A key focus of the meeting was the ongoing Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Ministers exchanged views on the evolving situation on the ground and explored additional avenues of support for Ukraine, with a particular emphasis on enhanced military assistance and the urgent need to foster EU–Ukraine defence industrial cooperation. The Ministers also addressed the changing nature of modern warfare, including the growing role of emerging and disruptive technologies on the battlefield. They underscored the importance of adapting European defence strategies to these new realities. In closing, the Ministers emphasized the critical need to raise public awareness about the importance of defence and preparedness. They stressed that Europe must be ready to defend itself and called for a coordinated campaign to engage citizens on these vital issues.
