EPP Finance Ministers, chaired by Valdis DOMBROVSKIS, Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification, Latvia, and Paschal DONOHOE, President of the Eurogroup and Minister of Finance of Ireland, met this morning in Brussels to prepare for today’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) agenda. Ministers began the meeting with a discussion on the potential of the digital euro, underscoring the need to foster public confidence through a transparent framework with strong privacy protection. Discussions then turned to the Energy Taxation Directive, where ministers reflected on the range of incentives for continuing progress on this topic. On the Simplification Agenda, ministers welcomed the advancements made whilst emphasising the need for sustained momentum in order to further unlock innovation and strengthen competitiveness across Europe. The meeting concluded with an important exchange on Financial Support to Ukraine, where ministers reiterated their unwavering commitment to Ukraine during Russia’s ongoing aggression.
