EPP Finance Ministers, chaired by Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification, and Vincent Van Peteghem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget of Belgium, met this morning in Brussels ahead of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). Ministers held an exchange on the market and supervision package, which forms a major part of the EU’s saving and investment union. A discussion was held on the Defence, Security & Resilience Bank, following the announcement earlier this week of its intended establishment. A number of ministers in attendance represented countries which have already signed up to the initiative. The Digital Euro was then the topic of the meeting with Ministers reiterating their commitment to its progression, having regularly discussed it at previous meetings. Finally, having just assumed the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Tanaiste and Minister for Finance of Ireland Simon Harris gave an overview of the work programme and priorities related to economic and finance matters. Ministers warmly welcomed the presentation and responded with their comments and reflections.
