EPP Finance Ministers, chaired by Valdis DOMBROVSKIS, Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification, Latvia, and Paschal DONOHOE, President of the Eurogroup and Minister of Finance of Ireland, met this morning in Brussels to prepare today’s Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) agenda.   Ministers began by congratulating Minister Donohoe for his reelection as President of the Eurogroup, for a third term.   They then exchanged views on the digital euro, recognising its strategic potential for strengthening European monetary sovereignty and promoting innovation in secure digital payments. They called for a balanced framework that ensures privacy, financial stability, and interoperability across the EU.   The conversation then turned to the development of a Savings and Investments Union, with ministers stressing the importance of completing the Capital Markets Union and ensuring retail investor participation.   The meeting concluded with a discussion on the economic and financial impact of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
