EPP Environment Ministers met yesterday to prepare for the Environment Council on 18 September. The meeting was co-chaired by Wopke HOEKSTRA, EU Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth, and Sari MULTALA, Finland’s Minister for Climate and the Environment. The EPP Secretary General Dolors MONTSERRAT warmly welcomed all Ministers and Commissioner to the meeting. Ministers exchanged views and coordinated with the responsible MEPs from the EPP Group on priority issues for the Council, in particular the European Climate Law and the 2040 climate target. The Coordinator of the EPP Group on Environment in the European Parliament, MEP Dr. Peter LIESE, together with Vice-President of the Group and MEP Lidia PEREIRA, shadow rapporteur for the 2040 target, reported on the state of play within the EPP Group. The Ministers also shared updates on recent key developments within their respective Member States. The meeting reaffirmed the EPP’s strong commitment to ensuring that climate ambition goes hand in hand with economic competitiveness, job security, and affordability for citizens.
