EPP Transport Ministers, co-chaired by Dariusz Klimczak, Polish Minister of Infrastructure and MEP Jens Gieseke, EPP Coordinator of the TRAN Parliamentary Committee, gathered today in Luxemburg to exchange views ahead of the upcoming Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council. The Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas provided a significant contribution to the discussion. The Ministers also welcomed the newly appointed Hungarian Minister, Dávid Vitézy, to the EPP family. The launch of the ministerial meeting sent a clear message: European competitiveness and protection against unfair competition from third countries is of outmost importance for the transport sector and for the EU as a whole. Discussions focused on a coordinated and rational response to transport decarbonisation. Welcoming the launch of the ministerial format ministers underlined that Europe’s transport sector must remain globally competitive while adapting to new sustainability requirements. They stressed the importance of avoiding additional regulatory and financial burdens that could weaken European operators, while ensuring a level playing field in relation to competitors from third countries.
