On Sunday, the Lithuanians will go to the polls and vote in the final round of parliamentary elections. The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Joseph DAUL, made the following statement: “I warmly congratulate the TS-LKD party and Chairman Gabrielius LANDSBERGIS on their victory in the first round of parliamentary elections. The outcome has clearly showed that the Lithuanians have voted for change and for those who have concrete ideas on how to deliver it”, said President Daul. “There is no doubt that the current government has failed. Economic inequality and a mass exodus of workers, mixed with a new labour code, have made Lithuanians fearful for the future. The TS-LKD offers an alternative, backed with a set of proposals designed to put the well-being of the people first. The party’s ambitious and achievable economic plan will stimulate growth and attract much-needed investors to Lithuania’s regions, while its forward-looking education reform will give young people better job opportunities.” “It is very reassuring to see a new generation of skilled, experienced and talented TS-LKD politicians, led by Gabrielius Landsbergis — politicians who are ready to work hard in delivering electoral promises. I followed Chairman Landsbergis’ career in the EU, and I am very impressed with his achievements. I am convinced that he will be an excellent prime minister, the youngest in the EU; Lithuania under his leadership is in good hands”, added the President. “The change that the Lithuanians are looking for can only happen in Sunday’s crucial second round. A vote for the TS-LDK is also a vote for the new style of leadership needed to bring about a prosperous future for the country. This is why I, along with the EPP, offer my full support for the TS-LKD and for Chairman Landsbergis, the party and the leader to lead Lithuania forward”, concluded President Daul.
