EPP Environment Ministers convened today (via videoconference) to prepare for the upcoming Environment Council on 17 June. The meeting was co-chaired by Wopke HOEKSTRA, EU Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth and Sari MULTALA, Minister for Climate and the Environment of Finland.
The co-chairs welcomed the Ministers, as well as Jessika ROSWALL, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, who presented the newly published European Water Resilience Strategy. The strategy sets out a comprehensive approach to safeguarding Europe’s water resources in the face of growing climate and environmental pressures.
The Ministers exchanged views and aligned their positions on the priority issues to be addressed during the upcoming Council. They discussed the key developments in their respective Member States. Ministers concluded with a discussion on the forthcoming proposal for the EU’s 2040 climate target, which is scheduled for adoption by the European Commission on 2 July 2025.
The meeting reaffirmed the EPP's strong commitment to pragmatic environmental action, coupling climate ambition with economic competitiveness.
