Brussels, 5 December 2022 The European People’s Party (EPP) held its 4th Political Assembly of 2022 on December 5th.
The participants adopted the minutes of the previous Political Assembly held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 17-18 November. This was followed by interventions from EPP President Manfred Weber and EPP Secretary General Thanasis Bakolas.
President Weber emphasized the importance of taking immediate measures to control rising migration flows coming from the Central Mediterranean and the Western Balkans to Europe. More specifically, Mr. Weber warned against “sleepwalking” towards a new migration crisis while highlighting the interconnectedness between the efficient protection of EU’s external borders and the enlargement of the Schengen area to three Balkan countries, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria.
The meeting also included interventions from Michal Szczerba (Civic Platform, Poland), the newly elected Vice President of NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly and  Vilija Aleknaite – Abramikiene (TS-LKD, Lithuania), the Chairperson of the EPP Group in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Additionally, the Presidents of the EPP’s six associations (YEPP, EDS, EPP Women, ESU, SME Europe and EUCDW) shared their contributions before an exchange of views by leaders of EPP member parties in Norway and Switzerland.
