During the last Environment (ENVI) Council meeting in Luxembourg on 17 June 2025, a joint letter prepared by the European People’s Party (EPP) Ministers of Agriculture and Environment — initiated by Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari ESSAYAH and Finnish Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari MULTALA — was officially presented to EU Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika ROSWALL.
The letter follows recent discussions among EPP Ministers on the significant potential of the bioeconomy and the urgent need for a bold, forward-looking EU strategy. It is intended to serve as a guiding framework for the forthcoming EU Bioeconomy Strategy, which is expected to be published by the European Commission in the second half of 2025.
Rooted in shared EPP priorities, the letter outlines key recommendations to ensure that the forthcoming EU Bioeconomy Strategy supports innovation and strengthens Europe's global competitiveness.
