On Sunday, Switzerland will hold federal elections. On this occasion, Joseph Daul, the President of the European People's Party (EPP), reiterated his support for the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP), an associate member party of the EPP: "On behalf of the EPP, I would like to express my support for the CVP and Doris Leuthard, the CVP Member of the Swiss Federal Council, for the elections on Sunday. The CVP is the party that will pursue close ties with the European Union (EU) while working as a consensus builder in Switzerland." “Switzerland is at a crossroads. After the federal popular initiative on immigration last year, Sunday’s vote will mark a decisive choice for the future of the country: whether to foster bilateral relations with the European Union or to close itself by jeopardising the freedom of movement. In the face of growing political polarisation in Switzerland, the CVP, like the EPP in Europe, is the only party capable of building bridges and tackling the rise of the populism.” "Switzerland should not turn its back on the EU. The EU is Switzerland’s most important trading partner. The exchange of goods and services with the EU is vital for the prosperity of the Swiss people.
