Suite au décès du Président Jacques Chirac, le Président du Parti populaire européen, Joseph Daul, a déclaré:
"C'est avec une immense tristesse que j'ai appris le décès de l'ancien Président de la République française Jacques Chirac. Mes pensées vont tout d'abord à son épouse et sa famille auxquelles j'adresse mes plus sincères condoléances en ces moments douloureux.
La France a aujourd'hui perdu un grand homme d'Etat et la droite française une figure tutélaire. A la tête de la France pendant 12 ans, Jacques Chirac aura marqué le pays par des réformes importantes telles que la suspension du service militaire obligatoire, l'adoption du quinquennat pour le mandat présidentiel ou la réforme des retraites. Son sens de l'histoire et du devoir de mémoire ont marqué par des moments forts sa présidence comme ce fut le cas lors de son opposition à l'intervention en Irak en 2003 et par la reconnaissance de la responsabilité de l'Etat français dans la déportation des Juifs.
Jacques Chirac était aussi un Européen convaincu défendant la vision d’une Europe fière. Il a toujours œuvré à la pérennité du projet européen et au dynamisme du moteur franco-allemand.
Sur une note plus personnelle, je souhaiterais rappeler sa proximité auprès des Français et plus particulièrement des agriculteurs et du monde rural. Ce souci et cette attention envers les travailleurs de la terre tiennent du fait qu'il fut au début de son parcours politique Ministre de l'Agriculture. Il fut aussi un ardent défenseur de la politique agricole commune.
Je tiens aujourd'hui à commémorer aussi l'homme aux côtés duquel j’ai fait mes premiers pas en politique et qui m’a accordé sa confiance en me permettant de me présenter aux élections européennes. Aujourd’hui j’ai perdu un mentor et un ami. Je porterai toujours en moi les souvenirs de notre complicité et continuerai à être guidé par ses conseils.

The EPP Platform is the core programme of our party outlining our main values, explaining the challenges our society is facing and presenting our vision for the future of European Union.
The Party Platform was developed in EPP Working Group 1 for “European Policy” chaired by EPP President Wilfried MARTENS ?and EPP Vice President Peter HINTZE. The Working Group consists of delegates of EPP member parties who prepared and worked?on this document for more than two years and received input?from the drafting committee as well as senior and young experts. The document was adopted at the 2012 EPP Congress in Bucharest, thus replacing the Basic Programme of Athens from 1992.
