Defence Ministers from the European People’s Party (EPP) convened in Copenhagen this morning to coordinate their positions ahead of the informal meeting of Defence Ministers (Gymnich). Over the years “Gymnich” meetings have provided a forum for discussing strategic matters related to the European Union’s global role and standing. The EPP meeting was chaired by Pål JONSON, Minister of Defence of Sweden.   A central focus of the meeting was the discussion of military support for Ukraine, the enhancement of industrial cooperation, and the strengthening of CSDP military missions and operations.   Ministers exchanged views on the ongoing debate surrounding security guarantees for Ukraine and emphasized the urgent need to achieve a just and lasting peace. They highlighted that the most effective security guarantee lies in reinforcing Ukraine’s armed forces, making continued military assistance a top priority.   In discussing defence readiness, the ministers emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to simplify procedures in the defence sector, aimed at eliminating administrative barriers and enhancing the defence capabilities of EU Member States.
