For more than a year we’ve all observed an unprecedented fight of the Belarusian people for their freedom. It is clear that today, the Belarusian dictator Lukashenko has extended its war, undermining stability and peace in Europe, with an escalating hybrid war at the EU border. The EPP, in cooperation with KAS Belarus, hosted the online roundtable “Future of the Belarusian Democracy”, with the participation of the leaders of the democratic political forces, Sviatlana Tikhanouskaya, Volha Kavalkova, Pavel Latushka, Vital Rymasheuski, Yury Hubarevich and Nikalai Kazlau. In an open and frank discussion, the participants stressed that the unity among opposition in Belarus and the unity among EU member States is crucial in the fight against Lukashenko. EPP Secretary General Antonio Lopez-Isturiz participated at the meeting and delivered the opening remarks, underlining that “Unity within the opposition as well as EU unity should be strengthened to fight the dictator. We need a clear, immediate and decisive response.”
