Ahead of the Greek parliamentary elections on 7 July, the President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Joseph Daul, has expressed his support and wished a strong electoral victory to EPP member party Nea Demokratia (ND) and its President Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “In this Sunday’s general elections, Greek citizens have the opportunity to bring new momentum to their country. A vote for Nea Demokratia is a vote for stability, prosperity and security for all Greek citizens. Only Nea Demokratia can offer a bright future to Greece. For four years, Syriza’s reckless and populist policies have jeopardised the Greek citizens’ sacrifices and the previous reforms. On Sunday, the Greek people can put the times of uncertainty behind them. Nea Demokratia has a vision for the country that will ensure each Greek citizen can feel optimistic about their future by breathing new life into the Greek economy. They will carry out the necessary reforms and investments while reducing taxes to foster a healthy climate for businesses so that companies can create more high-quality jobs. By cracking down on crime and addressing the impacts of the migration crisis on Greece, they are answering citizens’ calls for improved security in their day to day lives. Only Nea Demokratia can ensure the country moves forward. As a new generation of European leader, I am confident Kyriakos Mitsotakis is the leader to steer Greece in a new direction. I am convinced that under his leadership, Greece will benefit from his experience, his centre-right values and his European commitment and network. The recent European and regional elections were a clear message to defeat populism and a loud call for change from the Greek citizens. On Sunday, I hope a new chapter opens for Greece. On behalf of the EPP family, I wish the very best of luck to Nea Demokratia and to their President Kyriakos Mitsotakis”, concluded President Daul.
