EPP Agriculture Ministers met today in Brussels to prepare the upcoming Agriculture and Fisheries Council.  The acting Chairwoman, the Finnish Minister Sari ESSAYAH, welcomed the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Czesław Adam SIEKIERSKI. Ministers reviewed the current situation in the agricultural sector and discussed the potential next steps through an exchange of views on the simplification measures and actions already taken, proposed, or contained in the roadmap presented by the European Commission in order to reduce the administrative burden for farmers. Participants agreed on their support for the Commission proposal, while noting that more actions are needed in the long run. They reaffirmed their joint commitment to the goal of strengthening the position of farmers in the food supply chain, contained in the Commission's reflection paper. Furthermore, they referred to the renewed EU's autonomous trade measures deal and stressed the importance to maintain competitiveness of our farmers while at the same time showing further solidarity with Ukraine. The participants also exchanged views on the need to re-evaluate certain EU regulations, such as the nature restoration law, regulation on deforestation and concerning the populations of large carnivores.
