The European People’s Party (EPP) held its Political Assembly in Vienna on 29 and 30 June 2026, co-hosted by the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), and chaired by EPP Secretary General Dolors Montserrat. The event gathered delegates from across Europe to discuss EU enlargement and its importance for a stronger and more united Europe. In his opening remarks, EPP President Manfred Weber stated: “First of all, I would like to thank Chancellor Christian Stocker and our long-standing Austrian member party, the ÖVP, for their warm welcome here in Vienna. In the European elections in 2024, citizens entrusted us again with the mandate to lead, and we are delivering on that promise. We are bringing migration under control through the Pact on Migration and Asylum, we are strengthening our economic competitiveness through regulatory simplification and trade, and we are driving EU enlargement forward to ensure our continent is both safer and stronger. As the EPP celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, our commitment to serving European citizens and growing our political family remains steadfast. Welcoming the Assembly to Vienna, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker highlighted: “For more than three decades, the Austrian People's Party has been a proud member of the EPP and has helped shape European politics in a significant way. That makes me all the more pleased that, for the first time, we have the chance to welcome our party friends from across Europe here in Austria. The challenges we face are significant: the Political Assembly in Vienna is meant to offer a broad platform for finding common answers together. We are also glad to welcome a new member to our ranks: our sister party from Montenegro is set to join the EPP family. We hope that the next step will be joining the European Union itself. Montenegro is currently the most promising candidate for EU membership, and so they have our full support on this final stretch of the road into the European Union.” On the second day, the Assembly unanimously approved Pokret Evropa Sad! – Europe Now (PES) from Montenegro as a new associate member of the EPP. By welcoming PES into its political family, the EPP highlighted how the party has revitalized Montenegro’s European integration process and remains the primary driving force behind critical EU reforms. The Assembly also adopted the following resolutions: Following the adoption of the party reform at the EPP Congress in Valencia in 2025, the participants were also informed about the launch of individual EPP membership.
