As the Greek people head to the polls Sunday to elect a new parliament, the European People’s Party (EPP) would like to show support and wish our member party Nea Demokratia (ND) and its leader Vangelis Meimarakis a sound electoral victory.“The people of Greece have gone through turbulent times since the beginning of this year. Major financial difficulties, numerous empty political promises from Syriza, and devastating capital restrictions have put the Greeks through a difficult trial,” said EPP President Joseph Daul.
“After such challenging times, only an experienced and trustworthy political force like ND can bring stability to the Greek economy and put Greece on the path to more growth and jobs. Above all, Greece needs a skilled political leader who can unite all sides and ensure that the commitments made to the European partners will be kept,” said EPP President Daul.
“We’ve seen that credibility and coming up with viable solutions in times of crisis are not the strongest points of Syriza. Greece has seen more hardship and instability than jobs and growth under Prime Minister Tsipras. Greece does not need more experiments or promises that cannot be kept. Instead, it needs safe and experienced hands to work and serve the interests of the Greek people,” continued President Daul.
“The EPP fully supports ND and President Vangelis Meimarakis and believes it is the only political power which can provide the necessary stability for the Greek economy. ND believes in Europe and is guaranteed to keep Greece on its European path,” concluded President Daul.
The EPP Manifesto, also adopted at the 2012 EPP Congress in Bucharest, outlines the basic principles of the Party summary.
The EPP Manifesto, also adopted at the 2012 EPP Congress in Bucharest, outlines the basic principles of the Party summarising who we are, what our values are, what challenges are we facing and what vision we have for the future. The Manifesto was developed in parallel to the EPP Platform document within the EPP Working Group 1 for “European Policy”.
The EPP Platform is the core programme of our party outlining our main values, explaining the challenges our society is facing and presenting our vision for the future of European Union.
The Party Platform was developed in EPP Working Group 1 for “European Policy” chaired by EPP President Wilfried MARTENS ?and EPP Vice President Peter HINTZE. The Working Group consists of delegates of EPP member parties who prepared and worked?on this document for more than two years and received input?from the drafting committee as well as senior and young experts. The document was adopted at the 2012 EPP Congress in Bucharest, thus replacing the Basic Programme of Athens from 1992.
